Staddlestones |
Staddle stones generally date from the 18th Century when they were used to support granaries, their shape helped keep the rats out. The base of staddlestones vary in shape from round through rectangular to square. This tends to be a matter of local custom with different regions producing their own designs. The round ones tend to be from Hampshire and Sussex whereas the square versions are more common in Dorset as well as the Cotswolds. |
